Winter Park High School Orchestra Wins Award

High school orchestras from Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties anonymously submitted recorded auditions from their top orchestras to participate in a new program titled Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra High School Orchestra of Distinction.

The auditions were judged by local high school orchestra experts, which narrowed the selection pool to eight orchestras for the semi-final round.

The following six schools were among the semi-finalists: Colonial High School, Cypress Creek High School, Dr. Philips High School, Olympia High School, Trinity Preparatory School and St. Cloud High School.

After judges attended each semi-finalist school’s winter concert, both Winter Park High school and the Osceola County School for the Arts were chosen to receive awards.
“It was a pleasure to witness each school’s winter concert,” Director of Education Leia Barrett says. “The poise and professionalism of all final round participants were incredible.”

Winter Park High School’s orchestra, directed by Laurie Bitters, received the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra High School Orchestra of Distinction while the Osecola County School for the Arts’ orchestra, directed by Randall Love, received the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra High School Orchestra in the Wings.
