Tributes to Officers for National Police Week

You may have noticed flags flying at half staff on Monday. That is because May 15 was proclaimed Peace Officers Memorial Day by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, with the week in which that date falls honored as National Police Week.

This week, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world – including some from the Orlando Police Department – will visit Washington D.C. to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. One event that will take place during this week is a memorial service that began in 1982 as a gathering of about 120 survivors and supporters of law enforcement and has grown into a series of events that attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers each year.

In honor of National Police Week, the team at Central Florida Lifestyle Magazine thanks our local police officers for keeping us safe every day as well as police officers across the country and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
