City of Orlando Opens Additional Sandbag Distribution Site in Preparation of Hurricane Irma

Sandbags Will Now Also Be Distributed at Camping World Stadium 

WHAT:

The City of Orlando has opened a second location to give sandbags away to help residents prepare for the potential impact of Hurricane Irma. **Residents must show proof of residence and will be given 10 bags per address.

WHEN:

  • Today, Thursday, September 7, until 7 p.m.
  • Tomorrow, Friday, September 8, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

LOCATIONS:

  • Camping World Stadium, please access site from Tampa Avenue
  • City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division, 1010 Woods Avenue

RECOMMENDED ROUTES:

Camping World Stadium

Residents are advised to use the following routes to access the Camping World Stadium distribution location:

  • Coming from the West: Take Orange Center Boulevard east to Tampa Avenue. Head north on Tampa Avenue, then take a right into the Camping World Stadium parking lot.
  • Coming from the East: Take Gore Street to west (becomes Orange Center Boulevard) to Tampa Avenue. Head north on Tampa Avenue, then take a right into the Camping World Stadium parking lot.

City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division

Due to construction on West Gore Street, residents are advised to use the following routes to access Woods Avenue:

  • Coming from the South:  Take South Westmoreland Drive north to Columbia Street. Head west on Columbia Street and then take a right to head north on Woods Avenue.
  • Coming from the North:  Take South Westmoreland Drive south to Columbia Street.  Head west on Columbia Street and then take a right to head north on Woods Avenue.

As Hurricane Irma continues to gain strength in the Atlantic, counties in the Central Florida area have begun to offer sandbag locations.

Orlando distribution will take place Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m., according to a statement released on the City of Orlando site. Each Orlando resident with a valid proof of residence will be able to pick up 10 sandbags from the City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division, located at 1010 Woods Ave.

If you live in Winter Park, you can receive up to 12 sand bags at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 6 to Friday, September 8.

Here is a list of sandbag distribution points for Central Florida counties.  It is advised that you check with your county’s emergency management operation centers as this list is subject to change or supplies may run out.

BREVARD COUNTY: Sandbags are being offered 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in four locations starting Wednesday.

Locations:

  • Chain of Lakes Park, 2300 Truman Scarborough Way, Titusville
  • Mitchell Ellington Park, 575 Hall Road, Merritt Island
  • Calvary Chapel Church, 2852 Fellowship Place, Viera
  • Max K. Rhodes Park, 3410 Flanagan Avenue, West Melbourne

City of Melbourne: Sandbags will be available for City of Melbourne Residents September 7-8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Club 52/Greyhound Park, 1100 N. Wickham Road. Residents are allowed to have up to 10 filled sandbags per vehicles. You must show proof that you reside within the city limits of Melbourne.

FLAGLER COUNTY: The County will provide sand and bags at the following three locations:

  • Fire Station 71, 89 E. County Road 2006, western Flagler County
  • Fire Station 41, 5593 N. Oceanshore Boulevard, in the Hammock.
  • Fire Station 92, at the Flagler Executive Airport, 201 Airport Road.

Those who have their own bags, can fill up to 20 bags with sand. When bags are available, residents will be limited to 10 bags.  A self-service sand station and sandbags are available during daylight hours at Palm Coast Public Works Yard, 1 Wellfield Grade, off U.S. 1 just north of Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast.

City of Palm Coast: In addition, empty sandbags (but no sand) are available during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at:

  • Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave., Palm Coast
  • Palm Coast Utility Department, 2 Utility Drive, Palm Coast

Then, those empty sandbags can be filled at these three additional self-service sand stations:

  • Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast
  • Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast
  • Seminole Woods Neighborhood Park, 350 Sesame Blvd., Palm Coast

Once sandbag supplies are exhausted, please consider using plastic garbage bags to make your own sandbags.

LAKE COUNTY: Lake County: Sandbags will be made available at five Lake County locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Residents must bring their own shovels and are allowed to take 20 bags of sand per household per 24-hour period. No tools will be provided at sand deployment sites and citizens are responsible for filling their own sandbags. Locations:

  • Fire Station 10, 23023 State Road 40, Astor
  • Fire Station 14, 42700 State Road 19, Altoona
  • Fire Station 39, 31431 Walton Heath Ave., Sorrento
  • Fire Station 110, 6234 County Road 561, Clermont
  • Solid Waste Residential Convenience Center, 1200 Jackson St., Lady Lake

City of Groveland: In preparation for the hurricane free sandbags are available to the public. You will have to bring your own shovel and fill them yourself, but the bags are provided. The sandbags can be obtained and filled behind Groveland Fire Department Station 95 located at 450 W. Orange St. Groveland, FL. 34736. Please limit yourself to 10 sandbags per person so there is enough for everyone.

MARION COUNTY:  Marion County: Sandbags will be made available at multiple locations throughout the county. Sand, bags and shovels will be provided free of charge, but they are self-serve. The limit is 10 sandbags per resident. All of these locations are from 8 a.m. to dark.  MCSO District Offices:

City of Ocala:  Sandbag Station 1: Along Watula Avenue in Tuscawilla Park behind the Reilly Arts Center
• Sandbag Station 2: At the corner of State Road 40 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., just east of the Hampton Center.  Self-serve sandbag stations will be open Wednesday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. to dark daily. These stations will be available to City residents at no cost. Sand, bags and shovels will also be available on site. The limit is 10 sandbags per resident.

OSCEOLA COUNTY: Help will be available at all locations for those unable to fill the bags themselves. These locations are open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There is a 25-bag limit per household.

City of Kissimmee: The corner of Mabbette Street & Alaska Avenue (across from the YMCA). To access the site, residents must enter and follow signage from MLK Boulevard near the intersection of Thacker Avenue.
Up to 12 bags per household, with photo ID required — City of Kissimmee residents only please.
St. Cloud Residents: Up to 15 bags per household, with photo ID or City utility bill. Citizens must bring their own shovels.  • O.P. Johnson Park, 324 Georgia Ave., St. Cloud, FL 34769

ORANGE COUNTY: 

City of Apopka: Sandbags are available to the public Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Edwards Field, 11 Forest Avenue. Drivers are asked to enter the site from the east, along North Highland Avenue, and exit south onto East First Street. Residents can make up to 10 bags of sand.

City of Ocoee: The City of Ocoee has given out more than 2,000 sandbags to its residents and does not anticipate obtaining additional bags before Hurricane Irma’s expected arrival.   The city advises its residents to visit one of Orange County’s sandbag distribution locations.

City of Orlando: Sandbags are available to the public beginning Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division, 1010 Woods Avenue. Residents must showproof of residence and will be given 10 bags per address.

City of Winter Park: The city has distributed over 16,000 sandbags to its residents and will not be getting another shipment of supplies before Hurricane Irma’s arrival.

SEMINOLE COUNTY

  • County Operations at the Sports Complex Overflow Parking (3450 East Lake Mary Blvd, Sanford, FL  32773). StartsWednesday, September 6th from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Bring your own shovel. May fill up to 15 bags per household
  • St Johns Parkway (2808 St. Johns Parkway, Sanford, FL 32771) starting Thursday, September 7th  from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Bring your own shovel. May fill up to 15 bags per household
  • Sanlando Park (401 W. Highland St., Altamonte Springs, FL 32714) starting Thursday, September 7th from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.  Bring your own shovel.  May fill up to 15 bags per household.

City of Altamonte Springs (Eastmonte Park Overflow Parking Lot at  830 Magnolia Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL). TBD by end of business day (Tuesday, September 5th). Bring your own shovel.
Westmonte Park (624 Bills Lane, Altamonte Springs, FL). TBD by end of business day (Tuesday, September 5th). Bring your own shovel

City of Casselberry (115 Wilshire Blvd., Fern Park, FL) starting Thursday, September 7th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Bring your own shovel. May fill up to 10 bags per household.

City of Lake Mary (235 Rinehard Road, Lake Mary, FL)  TBD by end of business day (Tuesday, September 5th). Bring your own shovel.

City of Longwood (Public Works Facility at 907 East State Road 434, Longwood) starting Wednesday, September 6th from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Bring your own shovel. May fill up to 10 bags per household

City of Oviedo (Round Lake Park) starting Wednesday, September 6- from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Closure will be determined depending on the availability of sand bags. Round Lake Park will be temporarily changed to one-way traffic for the duration of Sand Bag operations.  Traffic will enter Round Lake Park via Stephen Ave. and exit the Park via the Harrison St. access. The Louise St. access off of County Road 419 will be closed at the Park entrance. May fill up to 12 sand bags per resident; until the supply is exhausted. Residents will need to bring their own shovels to ensure availability

City of Sanford (Public Works Complex at 800 W Fulton St., Sanford, FL) starting Wednesday, September 6th at 7:00 am – Open 24 hours. Bring your own shovel

VOLUSIA COUNTY 

City of Daytona Beach: Sandbags are available at the Public Works facility, 950 Bellevue Avenue. There is a limit of 10 bags per vehicle.

City of Deltona: The City of Deltona will have sand and bags available to residents from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and 8 at Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex,1200 Saxon Blvd., and the Public Works Depot, 201 Howland Blvd. (next to Walmart). Residents may take bags and fill them on site or with their own dirt. A limited amount of shovels will be available. There is a limit of 10 bags per resident.

City of DeLand: Sandbags are available in the parking lot south of Melching Field and along Hubbard Avenue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The station will open again Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m. or until supplies last. People will be limited to 5 bags per person. Shovels will be available for use and city workers will be on site to assist residents.

City of New Smyrna Beach: City residents may pick up sandbags from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the New Smyrna Beach Maintenance Operations Department, 124 Industrial Park Avenue. Sand and bags will be provided, but residents must bring shovels and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household. Valid identification showing New Smyrna Beach residency is required. Sandbags are free for New Smyrna Beach residents and will be available until further notice.

City of Ormond Beach: Residents are able to pick up sand bags on Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. For Thursday and Friday, September 7 and 8, distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each vehicle may receive a maximum of 10 sand bags. Residents must prove identification. Sandbags can be picked up at the Public Works Department, 501 N. Orchard Street.

City of DeBary: The City of Debary will have sand and bags until 5 p.m. at City Hall, 16 Colomba Road, Debary. Residents must provide their own shovel and fill their own bags. Valid identification is required.

City of Edgewater: Edgewater sand stations are self-serve; residents should bring their own bags and shovels and be prepared to fill their own bags. Sand is available at the following locations:

  • Fire Station 57, 2628 Hibiscus Drive
  • Menard May Park, 413 South Riverside Drive
  • Mango Tree Lake, 901 Mango Tree Drive
  • Airpark staging area, 1898 Airpark Road

City of Holly Hill: The City of Holly Hill will have sand and bags available until 5 p.m.at 10th Street and Magnolia Avenue. Residents must provide their own shovel and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 bags per resident. Valid identification is required.

City of Orange City: Orange City will have sandbags available until 7 p.m. at the Waggin’ Trail Dog Park, 1201 S. Leavitt Ave. Sand and bags will be provided. Residents must bring their own shovel and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household. ID is required.

Ponce Inlet: Town of Ponce Inlet will have sand and bags available to residents beginning Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the Ponce Inlet Fire Station, 4680 S. Peninsula Drive. Sand will also be available at the Ponce Inlet Community Center, 4670 S. Peninsula Drive. Residents will need to bring their own shovel and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 bags per resident. Valid identification is required.

Port Orange: The City of Port Orange will have sand and bags available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the following locations:

  • Southwinds Soccer Complex, 1200 Richel Drive
  • Spruce Creek Ballfield, 481 Central Park Blvd. (by tennis courts)
  • Coraci Park, 5200 Coraci Blvd.

There will be electronic signboards for each location. Residents will need to bring their own shovel and fill their own bags. If residents provide their own bags, they should be small trash bags and be double bagged. Valid identification is required. There is a limit of 10 bags per household.

City of South Daytona: The City of South Daytona will have sand and bags available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at the Piggotte Community Center, 504 Big Tree Road.
Residents may use shovels provided or supply their own. Valid identification is required. There is a limit of 25 bags per resident.

 ALACHUA COUNTY:

City of Gainesville: The city of Gainesville will resume sand bag operations Thursday, September 6 at 9 a.m. at the Public Works Compound (405 Northwest 39th Avenue).  Residents in urgent need of sandbags may check local hardware and home repair stores to purchase them.
