On May 7, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the West Orange Foundation, had the honor of recognizing many of West Orange County’s brightest students at the annual Education Awards ceremony, which was held at Windermere High School. While our primary focus is to promote and support the West Orange business community, we’ve always believed in the importance of educating, encouraging and paying tribute to our future business leaders.
Five deserving West Orange seniors were presented with the Danniel J. Petro and Voight Foundation Scholarships: Phong “Tommy” Nguyen (Olympia), Nina Steele (West Orange), Hannah Burns (West Orange), Ariane Machado (Dr. Phillips) and Robinson Vasquez (West Orange). All five students plan to attend the University of Central Florida.
The graduation of our W.O.P.T.E. “West Orange Program for Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs” was an additional highlight of the ceremony. The 2017-18 class included 14 students from Dr. Phillips, Evans, Ocoee, Olympia, West Orange and Windermere high schools. This program raises youth awareness regarding the area’s business community.
The night culminated with the presentation of our S.O.A.R. “Students of Achievement and Renown” award to 40 area students. This award of merit recognizes students in the fifth, eighth and 11th grades from chamber member schools, public and private, who have shown initiative, good citizenship, commitment and personal growth in the classroom.
