Community Health Centers – 45 Years of Quality & Compassionate Care

When Community Health Centers (CHC) opened its doors in South Apopka in 1972, patients were treated in a small trailer donated by the Catholic Diocese of Orlando. The goal was to provide quality healthcare for an underserved community. Caregivers had a passion for the community and treated people with dignity and respect; it was a place where everybody belonged.

Now, 45 years later, these values still hold strong, as CHC has grown to serve more than 66,000 patients annually via 13 state-of-the-art centers located across the Central Florida region. From the bright decor and welcoming staff, to modern technology, patients can expect to feel at ease during their visits.

The Community Health Centers Mission

CHC is a private, nonprofit organization that provides healthcare services to insured, uninsured, underinsured and underserved children and adults. Their ongoing mission is to provide quality, compassionate primary healthcare services to Central Florida’s diverse communities. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), CHC relies on federal, state and local funding to provide its services. They accept everyone regardless of their ability to pay and offer a Sliding Discount Program, based on family size and income, for those with and without insurance.  CHC also accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurances.

“At Community Health Centers, our Board of Directors and Executive Team are continually planning for growth and expansion in order to meet our growing patient population,” states Margaret Brennan, CHC’s President and Chief Executive Officer.  Brennan added, “We’re a strong organization thanks to over 500 dedicated, mission-driven team members who deliver high-quality, affordable care to people in need.”

Making Healthcare Easy

The focus at CHC isn’t only on easing the burden of healthcare costs, it’s also about providing access. Services include primary adult and pediatric care, women’s health, optometry, behavioral, and dental as well onsite labs and low-cost pharmacies.  CHC team members are committed to making the healthcare system easy to navigate for patients. “Having all of these services in one location makes it easier for our patients and their families,” states John Riordan, CHC’s Director of Marketing & Community Relations. “Our low-cost pharmacies also offer mail order prescriptions and online prescription refills, which saves our patients time and money.”

Driven by Technology

While its beginnings were humble, CHC has grown into a technology-driven practice. CHC utilizes an integrated electronic health record system to enable the healthcare team to view all of the services provided to the patient in one central location. This technology also allows the patient to be engaged in their healthcare via 24/7 access to their health record via a portal.

CHC is accredited as Medical & Dental Home by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAHC) and is recognized nationally as a Patient Centered Medical Home. They have demonstrated success in improving the health outcomes of their patients.  A medical practice for the whole family, Community Health Centers makes taking care of your health and your family’s health as simple as possible.
