Bordain Day Pig Roast Donates 100% Proceeds To Devereux

Local food artisans from Audubon Park’s East End Market hosted a community event to celebrate the life & legacy of one of the most influential personalities on the American food scene in modern history, Anthony Bourdain.  On June 25, fans around the world shared stories and celebrated the storytelling chef on the worldwide event designated as “Bourdain Day” on the date that would be his birthday.

Matt Hinkley and his colleagues at East End Market drew inspiration from a quote from Bourdain, “Barbeque may not be the way to world peace, but it’s a start.”

Thus, the Bourdain Day Fancy Pig Roast, a community event to raise awareness of suicide prevention and the resources available within the Central Florida community, was created.

One hundred percent of the proceeds raised were donated to support the individuals served at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Florida, a local non-profit organization providing mental health services for children and families.

The sold-out event was held at the East End Market Courtyard and featured food & beverage donations from Hinckley’s Fancy Meats, Bush Brothers Provision Company, La Femme du Fromage, Bird of Paradise, Skyebird, Gideon’s Bakehouse and Farm & Haus.

During the event, information was provided about Devereux’s services locally, including the mobile crisis mental health support provided 24/7 throughout Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.

Lindsey Phillips, Director of External Affairs for Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Florida, stated, “This event was such a creative way to provide a unique culinary experience while honoring Bourdain and promoting awareness of resources available in our community in support of those who may be sharing some of the same struggles Bourdain faced.  Members of the community came together to support the event and celebrated his life.  It was a win-win-win.”
