Put An End To Pain

Originally developed by Dr. P. Michael Leahy to offer pain relief for athletes who run Ironman triathlons, the active release technique (ART) combines pressure with muscle movement to release scar tissue that may have formed in muscles over time through overuse or from an injury. But ART isn’t just for athletes; it is for patients of all kinds who are seeking relief from pain associated with many common conditions.
This safe, non-invasive method releases soft-tissue restrictions, entrapped nerves and restricted circulatory structures, and it allows for the return of strength, flexibility and function in the affected area. ART can be performed on its own or in conjunction with chiropractic and other therapies to achieve a patient’s desired results. ART treatments typically last eight to 15 minutes for each area.
During a session, a therapist will press on a patient’s muscles with his or her thumbs while the patient is moving the affected limb or muscle in a certain way. This combination of direct tension and specific movements – over 500 specific moves in total – gives relief to patients with headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, knee problems and more.
Locally, Dr. Lawrence Teixeira is one of three doctors in Central Florida who is certified in this technique, and he is the only one in the area who is certified in all nine areas. All of his certifications include upper extremity, spine, complex protocols, biomechanic, active palpation, lower extremity, nerve entrapment, Ironman Provider Network and masters certified.
