In a heartfelt endeavor to bring attention to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Cannonball Kids’ Cancer Foundation (CKc) hosted its inaugural Ripple Effect Luncheon on Sept.7 at the Winter Park Events Center.

The event was a call to action for pediatric cancer awareness and a unique opportunity for community service.

A Luncheon with a Purpose

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to spotlighting the urgent need for research and treatment for pediatric cancers. According to Dana Nichols, the executive director for CKc, the Ripple Effect Luncheon aims to “empower everyone who attends the event to turn their passion into purpose and make a difference throughout our community.”

Attendees had the chance to assemble art kits for children and teens in the oncology unit at AdventHealth Orlando. The kits will serve as art therapy for young patients undergoing treatment.

The event also featured keynote speakers Rachel DeAlto, a communication and relatability expert, and Rachel Sheerin, author of “BURNING AT BOTH ENDS.” Both speakers emphasized the importance of relatability and turning passion into purpose, a message that resonated with the audience.

Funds for a Cause

The funds raised during the event are earmarked for research grants to find better treatment options for children with cancer. This aligns perfectly with CKc’s mission to “fund innovative research to create life-saving treatment options for children.”

CKc has also launched an education campaign to help bring awareness of why investing in research is important. http://researchisthekey.com/
