Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida Calls for Community Action During Hunger Action Month

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (SHFBCF) is urging its neighbors across its seven-county service area to come together to feed hope and end hunger. With September marking Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest aims to inspire one million actions, such as donating, advocating, or volunteering, to raise awareness about the one in eight adults and one in six children facing hunger on any given day in Central Florida.

How to Get Involved

The community can participate in various ways to help combat hunger:

1. Donate 30 Non-Perishable Food Items: Every donation makes a difference.

2. Host a Virtual Food Drive: Engage your network to support the cause online.

3. Attend a “Food for Thought” Tour: Join on September 4th or 18th to learn more about the food bank’s impact.

4. Join the “Ten10 Brewing 30 in 30” Event: Happening on September 7th, this event supports the fight against hunger.

5. Wear Orange on Hunger Action Day: Show your support on September 10th by wearing orange, the color of hunger awareness.

6. Donate $30 for 30 Days of Hunger: A small contribution can provide a month of meals for someone in need.

7. Volunteer Your Time: Sign up to help at Second Harvest’s distribution center or at Mercy Kitchen.

8. Become a Monthly Meal Maker: Provide ongoing support by becoming a recurring donor.

9. Pledge to Advocate for Hunger Relief: Use your voice to push for policies and support systems that address food insecurity.

10. Engage on Social Media: Like and follow Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida on social platforms to stay informed and spread the word.

A Community Effort

“We continue to see more families finding themselves in a place they never imagined – needing help with food,” said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO of SHFBCF. “Hunger Action Month is a reminder that it will take all of us to ensure that our friends and neighbors have the nutritious food they need to learn, work, and thrive. Your support is more important than ever as we work to provide hope and sustenance to those who need it most.”
