Secretomes 101: Unlocking The World of Natural Skin Care

Secretomes are a stunning new contender in the skin-care innovation field. While products such as growth factors, platelet-rich plasma, and exosomes have all impacted the aesthetics world, secretomes provide a distinct blend of restorative potential derived directly from the body’s platelets.

Secretomes have a unique ability to capture human cells and offer profound regeneration in a bottle. According to a renowned board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Adam J. Rubinstein of Miami, secretomes are bound to blow the aesthetic world open.

Dr. Rubinstein, a board-certified, award-winning plastic surgeon based, is one of the few elite practices that provides the Carmell Secretome a groundbreaking anti-aging skincare product, at his Miami, Florida practice.

He, along with a few other famous board-certified plastic surgeons from around the country, offers this innovation to patients in Miami and beyond.

How they work:

The word secretome was coined in 2004 and refers to a varied range of proteins secreted by cells, particularly platelets, known for their function in tissue repair and wound healing.

Secretomes are pivotal in skin care because of their anti-aging potential. These natural molecules can benefit skin care products by increasing collagen production, improving wound healing, reducing scars, enhancing tone and texture, and boosting skin elasticity and moisture retention.

Secretomes are biologically native components, and they are spontaneously created by human organ cells, including the skin. They originate from platelets in the blood.

It’s crucial to recognize that the healthy epidermis of the skin regenerates itself every three weeks throughout, thanks to components like platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), proteins, and anti-inflammatory lipids produced by our organ cells.

Considering this, it’s wise to say that secretomes promote more effective skin repair and rejuvenation. They are designed to replicate the regenerative effects of stem cells but without the complexities associated with stem cell therapies. This means that products containing them will produce faster, more targeted outcomes.

As humans age, the skin develops abnormal patterns such as melanin pigmentation clusters, pimples, rosacea, and fine lines and wrinkles.

Secretomes perform a critical and comprehensive function in biologically governing skin regeneration by regulating inflammatory patterns, eradicating melanin spots and epidermal dead cells, and improving skin surface texture by reducing wrinkles.

Are secretomes the same as Exosomes?

So, what’s the distinction between secretomes and exosomes? Both are involved in cellular communication and regeneration, yet they differ greatly.

Exosomes are small micron vesicles containing various signal proteins that cells use to communicate with one another.

Exosomes is a generic term that does not apply to specific proteins found in secretomes, such as PDGF and FGF. Secretomes contain specialized growth factors, whereas exosomes include more diverse signaling molecules.

Exosomes’ biochemical fragility has been highlighted on many occasions, making them challenging to synthesize in topical cosmetics. On the other hand, secretomes provide a more stable option, particularly when derived from platelet-enriched Plasma (PRP).

The use of secretomes in skincare products

The human skin is mostly comprised of proteins, with lipids and water providing the extracellular glue that keeps it together. This is why most skincare products include proteins.

Almost all proteins used in cosmetics are chemically produced, but one company is going the natural way and using the natural secretomes: Carmell.

Carmell Secretome is a new category in bio-aesthetic skincare and it uses exclusive biotechnology research to provide a cutting-edge solution for skin renewal.

Instead of artificially manufactured proteins, they use proteins and bio-lipids obtained from human platelet-enriched plasma (“PRP”). PRP is produced by bone marrow stem cells and is an important component of the body’s natural healing process.

Synthetic proteins are primitive compared to their naturally occurring counterparts and have unclear clinical value despite marketing promises.

Oligopeptide-1, for example, is chemically synthesized from three amino acids and promoted as an equal to Human Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF).

It seems improbable that such a little molecule can perfectly duplicate the bioactivity of EGF’s complex structure; if it did, it would be widely employed in medicine, but it is not.

Carmell aims to restore rather than replace what already works by harnessing the power of biologically native chemicals found naturally in the body. The Carmell Secretome contains up to 1,000 proteins, peptides, and bio-lipids, more than any other skincare product.

The product is made using proteins that are natural to our bodies, making them more potent yet gentler than foreign chemicals.

How is Carmell secretome produced?

The Secretome extracts growth factors (mostly proteins and peptides) and bio-lipids from activated allogeneic PRP. While doctors have used PRP to treat skin, hair, and joint issues for over 20 years, it has limitations that Carmell has addressed through exclusive research.

Unlike standard PRP, which is extracted from the patient (autologous), Carmell employs pooled allogeneic PRP, eliminating the need for blood samples and being available off the shelf without clinical processing.

This approach maintains a consistently high concentration of platelets, whereas autologous PRP’s efficiency varies depending on the patient’s health. Clinical trials have demonstrated that allogeneic PRP is more effective than standard PRP.

Furthermore, PRP exerts its therapeutic benefits only after it has been degranulated. Carmell extracts the bioactive components that make up the Carmell secretome using an ex vivo activation method.

Carmell’s products are proudly designed and manufactured in the United States in its in-house Pittsburgh factory, rather than being outsourced overseas.

The process begins with PRP obtained from strictly regulated tissue banks. Before bio-activation and extraction, the raw components are subjected to more than a dozen tests, and the finished product is tested for safety and efficacy to ensure quality.

Nature uses hundreds, if not thousands, of proteins, peptides, and bio-lipids to govern biochemical pathways rather than a single ‘ silver bullet.’ Carmell’s approach is similar to human biology, using a complex mix of biological proteins rather than one or two synthetic peptides.

Importantly, Carmell has done comprehensive protein assays to assure bioactivity, shelf stability, and years of safety tests. The scientific rigor and supporting evidence behind the Carmell secretome are unparalleled in today’s market.

Parting Shot

Secretomes are part of a paradigm shift in customer demand for sustainable and health-conscious solutions. These advances enhance long-term skin health by tapping into the body’s regeneration power.

The addition of platelet-derived secretomes in skin care represents a new frontier to take advantage of and get the skin of your dreams. By leveraging the body’s natural regenerative capabilities with these active molecules, skin-care products now offer improved wound healing, anti-aging, and overall skin appearance.

The next time you are in the store looking for a skin care product, go for one made from the natural secretetomes.
