Macy’s Inc. has officially announced the closure of 66 underperforming store locations as part of its Bold New Chapter strategy. This transformative plan, introduced in February 2024, aims to drive sustainable, profitable sales growth by optimizing Macy’s store fleet and enhancing customer experiences both in-store and online.
A Bold New Chapter: Reshaping Macy’s Future
The Bold New Chapter strategy includes the closure of approximately 150 underproductive stores over a three-year period, with a focus on reinvesting resources into 350 go-forward locations. Macy’s is committed to elevating product offerings, improving services, and creating seamless shopping experiences for customers.
“Closing any store is never easy,” Tony Spring, chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc. said. “However, this decision allows us to prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.”
Florida Store Closures
Among the 66 closures, several Macy’s locations in Florida are set to shut their doors, including:
- Boynton Beach Mall: 801 N Congress Ave, Ste 100, Boynton Beach
- Ft. Lauderdale Furniture: 4501 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale
- Pembroke Furniture: 13640 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines
- South Dade Furniture: 13251 South Dixie Highway, Miami
- West Shore Plaza: 298 Westshore Plaza, Tampa
- Altamonte Furniture: 820 W Town Pkwy, Altamonte Springs
- Southgate: 3501 S Tamiami Trl, Ste 600, Sarasota

Clearance Sales and Return Policy Details
For Macy’s Backstage stores and Furniture Galleries, clearance sales are expected to begin in February and run for around six weeks.
Macy’s has outlined the following return policy for customers shopping at closing locations:
- Merchandise bought on or after Jan. 13: Cannot be returned or exchanged at a closing store.
- Merchandise bought before Jan. 13: May be returned (per the company’s return policy) at a designated register through Feb. 11.
- Merchandise bought at Free-Standing Macy’s Backstage on or after Feb. 3: Cannot be returned or exchanged at a closing store.
- Merchandise bought before Feb. 3: May be returned (per the company’s return policy) at a designated register through March 4.
- Merchandise bought at Macy’s Furniture Galleries on or after Feb. 3: Can be returned online as outlined in the company’s return policy.

Macy’s efforts to modernize include significant investments in its go-forward locations, which have already yielded promising results. Sales in the initial 50 pilot stores have seen growth for three consecutive quarters, with record customer satisfaction scores reported for the Macy’s nameplate.
