Full Sail University is proud to announce that 47 of its alumni contributed to 18 projects nominated across 21 categories at the 97th Annual Academy Awards. Among these talented individuals, two graduates received personal nominations in the prestigious “Sound” category.
Full Sail alumni Gary A. Rizzo (1993 Recording Arts) was recognized for his work as a Re-recording Mixer on The Wild Robot, while Nancy Nugent Title (1999 Recording Arts) earned a nomination for her role as Supervising Sound Editor on Wicked.
Alumni from Full Sail played significant roles in numerous categories, including Film Editing, Visual Effects, and Documentary Feature Film. The 97th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on ABC. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Conan O’Brien.
“Our alumni working throughout the motion picture community have been making us proud for decades and we cheer the recognition they receive working behind the scenes on so many wonderful releases,” Jay Noble, Vice President of Alumni at Full Sail University said. “We are excited to tune in on March 2 to watch our graduates’ dedication to the motion picture industry being celebrated on an international stage during the Oscar Awards.”
Full Sail graduates contributed to several high-profile nominated films in categories such as Best Picture, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. Notably, Wicked received nominations in 10 categories, including Best Picture, with contributions from alumni Mario Alexander Orlando (Animator) and Chelsea Goodchild (Digital Artist), who helped create the film’s visual spectacle. Additionally, Jeffrey Roy (ADR Mixer) and Geraldo Gutierrez (Re-Recording Mix Technician) played essential roles in the film’s audio production.
The horror genre also saw recognition, with Full Sail alumni playing a part in these thrilling projects. Alien: Romulus earned a nomination for Best Visual Effects, with contributions from graduates such as James Miller (Sound Effects Editor), Cinnie Saunders (Production Assistant), and Robert Carr (Re-Recording Mix Technician). The Substance, nominated in five categories including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Makeup & Hairstyling, featured the work of Judah Getz and Patrick Christensen as ADR Mixers. Additionally, Nosferatu secured four nominations, including Best Cinematography and Best Production Design, with Trino Madriz contributing as an ADR Mixer.
A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic, received nominations in eight categories, including Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Director, and Best Costume Design. Full Sail alumni Kalani Akuna (Graphic Designer), Vinny Alfano (ADR Recordist), and David Betancourt (ADR Mixer) were among those who worked on the film.
Other notable projects featuring Full Sail graduates include Conclave, Dune: Part Two, and Anora, each of which received critical acclaim and nominations in various categories.
