In a significant move to enhance visitor experience and ease traffic congestion, the Florida Park Service has announced a new pilot program requiring reservations for day-use entry at Wekiwa Springs State Park. This initiative, set to begin on March 12, 2025, will run through September 1, 2025, and aims to streamline park access while reducing the long lines that have historically extended onto Wekiwa Springs Road.
What Visitors Need to Know
Starting March 10, 2025, guests can begin making advanced reservations for day-use entry. Reservations can be booked up to 60 days in advance, with same-day reservations available until capacity is reached. Importantly, the standard park entry fee will be collected online at the time of booking, with no additional charges for making a reservation.
Annual passholders are also required to make reservations and can select the “Annual Passholder” payment option when booking. Upon arrival, they must present both their reservation receipt and annual pass for entry.
Addressing Traffic Issues
Historically, eager visitors have lined up for hours before the park opens, leading to significant traffic disruptions. The switch to a reservation system is expected to alleviate congestion, ensuring a smoother, more enjoyable entry process for all guests.
How to Secure a Reservation
To reserve a spot, visitors should head to the official Florida State Parks reservation website at reserve.floridastateparks.org. Each reservation is valid for a single day, and a new reservation is required for each visit. Proof of reservation—either digital or printed—must be presented upon arrival.
For those booking services through a park concessionaire, confirmation of purchase will be required at check-in. Camping guests, however, will continue using their existing camping reservation information without additional steps.
Reentry and Refund Policies
Visitors wishing to exit and reenter the park must obtain a reentry ticket from the ranger station before leaving. Without this ticket, reentry will not be permitted. In case of cancellations, entry fees are refundable, but no-shows will not be eligible for refunds.
Future of the Pilot Program
Wekiwa Springs State Park is the only location implementing this reservation-based entry system at this time. The Florida Park Service will evaluate the program’s success before deciding on its potential expansion to other parks.
Additional Information
Annual passes remain available for purchase at the Ranger Station during normal park hours, with no reservation required. For group events, reservations may be coordinated alongside pavilion rentals by contacting the park directly.
