Local Business Community Participates in Teach-In

In conjunction with his work as an Adopt-A-School partner through the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (CFHLA), allied member Peter Woodruff of Southeastern Laundry Equipment organized a group of fellow members to participate in the annual Great American Teach-In on Nov. 18. Leaders from the local business community spent the morning and early afternoon at Orange Center Elementary School to share their career and educational experiences with the bright young students.

Dave Chilton of Sunshine Recycling taught the kids all about recycling and “The Garbage Mountain” while Miguel Botto of Austin Landscaping shared about the importance of top-notch customer service and how it can affect a business. Marshall Pickard filled the students in on his work with Squeegee Squad, but he really had them amazed with his stories of his encounters with tarantulas, poisonous frogs and snakes during his Amazon adventures while filming a documentary titled “Amazonia, A Perilous Journey”. The students also heard from representatives from the Orlando Police Department and Fire Department.

Schools across the district participate in the Teach-In each year, welcoming visitors from a variety of career fields into the classroom to teach and inspire students.
