Event Details

The final concert in the Orlando Philharmonic’s 2015-2016 season’s Classics Series, the program will celebrate the versatility of the orchestra featuring works by Wagner, Ravel, and a world premiere by acclaimed Orlando composer, Keith Lay. Lay’s ten-minute commission, entitled “Venus and Vulcan in America,” playfully updates the myth of Venus and Vulcan, creating a new ending in which Vulcan wins his wife’s heart. The piece will serve as a bridge between Wagner’s majestic Overture to Tannhauser and Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso. Concluding the program is Ravel’s textural masterpiece, Pictures At An Exhibition, which was originally written as a piano showpiece by Mussorgsky. The program will be conducted by Music Director Eric Jacobsen.

Tickets start at $21.
