Diego Lucano and his family relocated from Orlando to New York City so he could begin rehearsals for the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, “School of Rock,” which opened in December. The 11-year-old former student of the Dr. Phillips Center Florida Hospital School of the Arts made his Broadway debut on Feb. 5 much to the excitement of his fans and former teachers in Orlando.
Prior to his move, Diego was deeply immersed in Orlando arts and culture. A three-time recipient of the Dr. Phillips Center’s Arts for Every Life Education Scholarship, he trained at the Dr. Phillips Center Arts Education Program and the Orlando Ballet School. Diego focused specifically on musical theatre when he was enrolled in classes and camps at the Dr. Phillips Center Florida Hospital School of the Arts.
“Diego is one of the hardest-working students I’ve had the pleasure of meeting,” Dr. Phillips Center Director of Education Dana Brazil says. “We are so proud of everything he has achieved and all that lies ahead. He is living a dream, and we are honored to have played a part in helping him to achieve that dream.”
