Last month, Orlando Ballet School (OBS) students returned home from the American Dance Competition in Daytona Beach and the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Finals in New York City. Their hard work at these international competitions earned them an impressive list of awards, and OBS received special recognition as the Outstanding School of the Decade at the American Dance Competition.
“At Orlando Ballet School we are fortunate to have the most knowledgeable, dedicated and nurturing ballet faculty and staff,” Dierdre Miles Burger says of the award. “Their care, along with the diligence of our students, has resulted in consistent good work and we are thrilled to be honored in this way.”
American Dance Competition award winners from OBS include Alexis Workowski, Chloe Misseldine, Angelina Broad, Cara Berl, Valentin Batista, Cooper Everson and Kethleen Mazza. Seven of the 12 OBS students who qualified competed in the YAGP Finals, the world’s largest global network of dance. OBS recognitions include Maggie Chadbourne and Boris Ceballos, who placed 3rd in the contemporary pas de deux category, and Bella Kirby and Elianna Vogel, who placed in the top 20 percent and were selected to compete in the final round presented at Brooklyn Academy of Music.
