Treat Yourself to Salt

If you’re trying to get healthy, salt in your diet is often one of the first things to go but what about salt on your walls? It might sound bizarre but many Central Florida residents are spending time in rooms coated in salt, a form of therapy that helps relieve a variety of health issues, including allergies and asthma. With salt rooms in Mills and a new location popping up in Millenia, the benefits of salt therapy are becoming more and more widespread.

Salt therapy, or halotherapy, comes in several different forms. Salt rooms utilize dry salt aerosol inhalations through salt-infused air and wall coatings. The origin of the modern salt room, a relaxing chamber often equipped with flat-screen TVs or toys, derives from European salt caves. Practitioners of this therapy report a variety of health benefits during and after their steady breathing sessions in salt rooms. While not everyone will experience the same relief, acne treatment and pure relaxation seem to be the most ubiquitous of benefits.

For almost five years, the Salt Room on North Mills Avenue has been helping the community through this therapy. But halotherapy isn’t the only treatment on the menu. The Salt Room offers acupuncture sessions, salt room yoga and massages for an even more relaxing experience. Soon residents living near the Mall at Millenia will be able to experience the Salt Room closer to home, as the company plans to open a new location in that area. So for your next ‘me’ day, consider exploring Orlando’s salt rooms for some relaxation and wellness.
