Get Ahead in Academics

Independence. Challenge. Discovery. Confidence. Posters with these declarations and others line the walls of the Huntington Learning Center in Hunter’s Creek, serving as motivation for the students who are tutored there.

The Huntington Learning Center program has been helping students achieve their academic goals for the past 37 years. Three focus areas are the center of the Huntington curriculum: academic skills like writing and studying, subject tutoring for specific trouble areas and exam prep for SAT and ACT tests as well as private school entrance exams and a variety of state assessments. It is recommended that students participate in the Huntington program at least four to six hours each week to reap the most benefits.

Teachers at Huntington Learning Center are state certified in their respective fields and have been through a Huntington preparation program that gives them the ability to instruct students on math and reading skills, the two common areas that children have difficulties with. Many sessions are one on one although some students may be placed in small groups of no more than four with one teacher. Accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the program works closely with students, their parents and their teachers or guidance counselors at school to make sure they are successfully learning the necessary skill sets to get them back on track.

“The goal is that the kids get the best education possible,” Osman Fareeduddin, owner of Huntington Learning Center’s Hunter’s Creek location, says. Part of that is working with students to bring them one grade level above where they currently are to decrease the chances of them falling behind again. “We try to build their skill level up so they have more confidence and more motivation to work harder. It’s a cycle.”

When the process begins, students are asked to complete an academic evaluation that helps to determine where they are struggling. From there, the experts at Huntington Learning Center work with the parents to customize the best academic plan for each particular situation. “The benefit of this testing is it gives us a complete academic workup of the student,” Center Director Bill Orris says. “From that we’re able to look at a prescription of services that can provide them the best benefit.”

What sets Huntington Learning Center apart is that each student’s plan is specific to his or her individual needs. “No two are ever the same,” Orris says.

With that level of commitment, it’s no wonder Huntington Learning Center has such a great track record for getting students to where they need to be academically. If you think tutoring may be the key to getting your child back on track at school, schedule an academic evaluation at Huntington Learning Center to see what they can do to help.
