Recognizing Our Future Leaders

On May 2, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce (WOCC) recognized West Orange County’s brightest elementary, middle and high school students. This year’s Education Awards, sponsored by Orlando Health, Suzanne’s Gifts, Trophies Unlimited and Wynn Consulting Group, showcased student achievements throughout the West Orange region.

More than 40 students received our S.O.A.R. “Students of Achievement and Renown” Award. This award recognizes students in fifth, eighth and 11th grades from chamber member schools, both public and private, who have shown initiative, good citizenship, commitment and personal growth in the classroom.

The graduation of our W.O.P.T.E. “West Orange Program for Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs” students was another ceremony highlight. The 2015-16 class included 14 students from Dr. Phillips, Evans, Ocoee and West Orange high schools. This program, sponsored by Bright Future Electric in partnership with Junior Achievement of Central Florida and Deb Linden of The Vineyard Wine Bar & Healthy Bistro, teaches our youth about the West Orange business community and its offerings.

The night culminated with the presentation of college scholarships to a trio of deserving high school seniors. Congratulations to the following winners of the Danniel J. Petro/West Orange Chamber Scholarship: Noel Berrios, Colleen Lay and Evan Jones. All three students currently attend West Orange High School and plan to attend the University of Central Florida.
