Top Green Schools Plan for Future

Three lucky Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) were recently awarded with cash prizes for their efforts in sustaining green campuses, and now school representatives are planning how each school will spend the prize.

The top three winners of the 3rd Annual Green School Recognition Program were presented with their prizes in a ceremony held last month. Tildenville Elementary School in Winter Garden earned $5,000 as the 1st place school, Lockhart Middle School earned $3,000 as the 2nd place school, and Dommerich Elementary School earned $1,000 as the 3rd place school. All money awarded came from the Energy Rebate Program in each school’s district.

Through the district’s initiatives, students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiences like recycling efforts using the school grounds as a learning environment. With the help of sponsors like Bright House, Go Green Charity Recyclers, OUC, Universal Studios Orlando, Winter Park Health Foundation, University of Central Florida and SeaWorld, OCPS has put over $16,000 toward green school initiatives.
