The Downtown Arts District is thrilled to unveil the final storefront art installations of its transformative “Vacant to Vibrant” initiative at this month’s “3rd Thursday” event on March 20, 2025, at CityArts. This ongoing project breathes life into vacant storefronts, converting them into stunning visual art displays by local artists, enriching the landscape of Downtown Orlando (DTO).
A collaboration between the Downtown Arts District, the Orlando Downtown Development Board, and United Arts of Central Florida under the DTOLIVE! program, “Vacant to Vibrant” has successfully brought engaging and dynamic artwork to previously unused spaces. The final installations include “Reality OS” by 302 Interactive and “Buff Chicken” by University of Central Florida students Raquel Hernandez, Sophia Boutros, Alexa Berg, Maya Glenn, and Sebastian Keller.
Where to View the Installations
Visitors to Downtown Orlando can explore these captivating exhibits within two blocks of CityArts at the following locations:
- 133 S. Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32801 (302 Interactive/UCF)
- 150 S. Pine St, Orlando, FL 32801 / 50 E. Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32801 (David Griffith)
- 139 E. Pine St, Orlando, FL 32801 (Amanda Seckington)
Since the initiative launched in May 2024, it has showcased the works of numerous talented artists, including Peterson Guerrier (Red Tape Orlando and Color Me Places), Phat Ash Cookies, and Catalina Villegas. Each featured artist’s installation remains on display for a 60-day exhibition period or until the storefront is rented.
A Celebration of Art and Community
“We are delighted to debut the final installations from our exciting Vacant to Vibrant program at this month’s 3rd Thursday,” Executive Director Barbara Hartley said. “Art is thriving in Central Florida, and both our ongoing programs, Vacant to Vibrant and 3rd Thursday, further our mission to continue to grow the arts and make it accessible to all, which we are very proud to continuously deliver on each year.”
In addition to the striking storefront window installations, 3rd Thursday attendees can experience seven new exhibitions at CityArts, interact with the artists, and enjoy a variety of entertainment as part of DTOlive!. Magnolia Avenue and Heritage Square in front of the Orange County Regional History Center will feature additional attractions, including art vendors, live artist demonstrations, and live music on the outdoor stage.
