Barry Manilow Donates New Yamaha Piano

Pop music icon Barry Manilow hopes others will follow his philanthropic lead as he brings his Manilow Music Project (MMP) to Jones High School in Orlando. The legendary singer/songwriter plans to donate a Yamaha piano to launch a local music instrument drive. Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument will receive two (2) free tickets (valid for pre-selected seat locations on a first-come, first-serve basis) for Manilow’s December 8 holiday performance at Orlando’s Amway Center.

The MMP has conducted music instrument drives all over the country to assist local schools with their music programs.

“I’m thrilled to bring the gift of music to these kids,” said Manilow.

The designated instrument drop-off will be the Amway Center administration entrance located on the east side of the arena adjacent to the Orlando Magic Team Store. Instrument drop-off hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“Jones High School is excited that we have been chosen for The Manilow Music Project,” said Allison Kirby, Principal. “Jones High School is one of the oldest public high schools in Florida.  Our band and chorus continue to achieve superior marks at performance assessments. While our school is 100% free/reduced lunch status and most of our students cannot afford private lessons, our students’ sheer determination is what has made Jones High School a premier school for music education. We need instruments so that the musical tools match the superior talent of our children.”

The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope

The MMP is part of The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope. It was formed as a grassroots organization to assist local charities and programs. Its primary focus is to provide musical instruments to high schools and middle schools and to provide music scholarships at universities throughout the US, Canada, and the UK. A 180-foot tall tower serves as a beacon amid the downtown skyline.
