From learning to bake with her mom when she was three to using baking to hone her math skills, Orlando local Brooklyn Barrett has brought her passion for baking to a new level on Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals on the Food Network.
The newest season of Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals premiered two weeks ago. Barrett is one of the twelve kid bakers from across the nation competing to win the title of Kids Baking Champion, along with $25,000 and a feature in Food Network Magazine.
The show features animal-inspired challenges each week for contestants to put their creative spin on traditional baked goods like tarts or macarons. Having worked on her baking skills since she was young, Barrett said she was thrilled when she heard she’d be on the show.
“I was really excited. Me and my sister were jumping around a lot,” Barrett said.
During the experience, Barrett said she made new friends with fellow contestants, mentioning they went out to dinner after the show and have a group chat to keep in touch. She even discovered her favorite thing to bake: a French Macaron, something she had attempted before the show but said she did not fully get right until the Kids Baking Championship.
“Kids Baking Championship is a celebration of the amazing things kids can do in the kitchen, not only with their baking and decorating skills but also in how they support each other even while competing,” Betsy Ayala, Head of Content, Food, Warner Bros. Discovery said in a press release. “With animals as the inspiration the creations are adorable, and the kids are exceptional in the most heartwarming way.”
Coming off the show, Barrett plans to introduce the world of food to kids who are curious about growing their kitchen skills. She said she has a bus with a kitchen in the back and a classroom in the front, where she plans to teach kids about dishes from around the globe and how to make them.
She’s looking forward to “bringing” her students to France to teach them how to make her favorite, macarons and also Canada as she said she is part Canadian.
“I like the idea of going around the world and tasting foods, except I know some people can’t do that because they’re kids and they want to go around the world, but they have to stay here to go to school and stuff. So why not just go around the world in one weekend,” Barrett said.
Courtney Barrett, her mother, mentioned the bus is all set and ready to go when Barrett wants to start classes. Barrett said she is thinking of getting it going between this summer and next.
As for other aspirations Barrett may have, she would like to continue baking but also plans to get a degree in mechanical engineering “in case the baking thing doesn’t work out” as she said.
