Every year, Pinterest reviews all of its Halloween-related searches and boards to come up with a report outlining the top costume trends of the season. TV shows like “The Power Puff Girls” and “Stranger Things,” were most searched in 2019, so this year’s theme is considered to be entertainment. Based on this Pinterest prediction, as well as our knowledge of pop culture, we’ve compiled a list of some of the top costumes that we expect to see out and about this Halloween.
“Stranger Things”
While there’s no shortage of memorable outfits in season three of “Stranger Things,” a few stand out as Halloween potentials. Couples can channel Dustin and Suzie with a Camp No Where theme or Robin and Steve with a Scoops Ahoy uniform. Solo costume inspiration will come from Eleven’s ‘80s-inspired transformation (think geometric-patterned jumpsuits and scrunchies) and, of course, Hopper’s Hawaiian date-night attire. You probably even have everything you need in your closet for an Alexei costume – just don’t forget to accessorize with a cherry Slurpee.
Disney Movies
This was a big year for Disney movie fans with live action remakes of “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” hitting theaters along with the much-anticipated final film of the “Toy Story” series. Trick-or-treaters will likely be inspired by these releases, so expect to see lots of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine combos as well as Buzz and Woody and maybe even an outside-the-box Timon and Pumba thrown in for good measure. Bo Peep will likely be a popular costume, and Forky re-creations will be a fun way to get creative. The third installment of Disney’s “Descendants” series will also be a huge source of inspiration for the younger crowd.
Musical Inspiration
Is “Old Town Road” still stuck in your head from this summer? Well, get ready, because the fringed singing cowboy look will also be showing up at costume parties throughout the season. Lizzo’s unique style will be a source of Halloween inspiration, too. Between her music videos and red carpet looks, the “Truth Hurts” singer has many fashion choices to choose from. Also, don’t be surprised if you open your door to a ton of little JoJo Siwa impersonators this year. The singer’s colorful outfits and gigantic bows are easy to pull together and will probably be worn even beyond Halloween.
The Royals
People still can’t get enough Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in their lives, especially now that baby Archie is here. While last year was all about the royal wedding couple’s costume, this year is more of a family affair. It’s a fun, easy-to-accomplish costume for couples who are expecting or those who have a little one around the same age as Archie.
