Playing outside with friends, participating in weekend sports practice, and playing tug of war at field day are foundational childhood experiences. But these outdoor activities and games don’t look the same for kids with neurological motor disabilities and it’s often believed that these types of activities aren’t possible for them.
To bring this core experience to individuals with disabilities and raise awareness about the need for programs like this, CECO is partnering with Special Olympics Florida to host an inclusive event for students of all ages this Friday, March 15 at Downey Park. CECO students and families will participate in games designed specifically for their needs, such as inclusive ball games and tug of war. The event will even feature an award ceremony, giving students medals to celebrate their accomplishments and boost confidence.
This is just one example of CECO’s unique community that addresses the overall needs of children and young adults with motor disabilities to maximize these individuals’ lives and bring equal opportunities.
