“The solution is more than just offering medication. The lifestyle and perception that precipitated the stress response in the first place needs to change.” This is Dr. Andrew Pleener’s motto and the way he runs his Central Florida practice, Regional Psychiatry.
He chose the medical field because he wanted the opportunity to ease the suffering of others. Dr. Pleener earned his degree at Richmond University Medical Center, an affiliate of the Mount Sinai Hospital. He previously practiced psychiatry at RUMC Hospital Comprehensive Psychiatry Emergency Program in Staten Island, New York before opening his practice in July 2019.
Dr. Pleener focuses on psychotherapy, medication management and weight loss management, and he is certified in transcranial magnetic stimulation. He works closely with patients to help change their perspectives in a positive manner via education and providing hope and motivation to achieve realistic goals.
“Working together with individuals to help them regain control of their lives, watching them progress and how it impacts those around them positively, has been the ultimate reward,” Dr. Pleener says.
He credits his father, Dr. Larry Pleener, a family practice physician who specializes in weight loss and stress reduction, as his biggest mentor. Volunteering at his practice provided the opportunity to learn about the way his father determined the root cause of a patient’s problems instead of simply prescribing medication. That lesson is a major part of his practice today.
Outside of the office, Dr. Pleener enjoys spending time with his wife and children, public speaking and participating in outdoor activities.
