Get Back To Your Life Orlando Neurosurgery Centers

Individuals living with pain – whether it’s in the back, neck, joints or muscles – know that it can keep them from participating in normal activities and make it difficult to maintain a high quality of life. But pain doesn’t need to be endured from the sidelines. The skilled physicians at the Spine & Brain Neurosurgery Center are here to help.

“Musculoskeletal conditions are some of the most common health problems in adults and are the leading cause of disability worldwide, which increase healthcare costs and loss of work,” Dr. Diana Hussain says, adding that back pain is the second most common illness-related reason for a missed workday and the most common cause of disability.

Along with neurosurgeon Dr. Nizam Razack, the founder and president of the Spine & Brain Neurosurgery Center, Dr. Hussain works with patients to help them get back to enjoying life again.

Relieve the Pain
First and foremost, the specialized physicians at the Spine & Brain Neurosurgery Center educate patients about their choices, stand by them as they exhaust less invasive options for pain relief, and offer them expert surgical care when it becomes necessary.
More conservative approaches to care include recommending therapy, prescribing medication and performing injections at the affected site. Should these treatments not be effective, the patient would then move on to discuss surgical options with Dr. Razack. From minimally invasive procedures for pain caused by sciatica, disc herniations or degeneration to Deep Brain Stimulation for the treatment of movement disorders, there are a variety of state-of-the-art surgical technologies available. Dr. Hussain notes that, ultimately, the treatments are determined by close communication between the doctor and the patient.
The collaborative effort put forth when treating patients has allowed Dr. Hussain to work closely with Dr. Razack and to learn from his expertise as well. “Working with Dr. Nizam Razack has been a great experience,” Dr. Hussain says. “He has been an excellent role model in professionalism and compassionate patient care.”

The First Stop
Dr. Hussain’s office is typically the first stop for patients who are looking to resolve their pain issues. She specializes in non-operative management of neck and back pain, joint pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, nerve pain and many other disorders of the muscles, bones and nerves including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, bursitis and arthritis.
Using nerve conduction studies and electromyography, Dr. Hussain is able to determine the exact location of a nerve impingement or muscle issue that is causing pain. With nerve conduction studies, patients are wired with electrodes, which are given a jolt of energy so she can measure the response of the patient’s nerves. Electromyography uses the same technology but during this procedure, Dr. Hussain pokes the muscles with small needles to measure the electrical activity within the muscle. “The diagnostic procedures I perform are critical in identifying the cause of the problem, which allows me to formulate an effective treatment plan.”
Many patients visit Dr. Hussain because of chronic headaches and migraines. For patients who suffer at least 15 headaches a month that last for at least four hours and prove to be incapacitating, she is able to offer chemodenervation, or BOTOX treatments, to ease the muscles that cause the headaches. FDA approved and covered by most insurance options, chemodenervation candidates receive 31 injections that cover the forehead, each side of the head, neck and shoulders. Dr. Hussain has been performing this treatment for close to 10 years. “This treatment can reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches and decrease reliance on pain medications,” she says.
Dr. Hussain loves to see the smiles on her patients’ faces when they are finally pain free. “It is very rewarding to see patients being able to enjoy life again after they have been diagnosed and treated appropriately.”

What to Expect
Many primary care physicians refer patients to the Spine & Brain Neurosurgery Center for treatment of pain and some find the center on their own. No matter how they got there, Dr. Hussain is confident that they will be well taken care of and that each physician will do everything in their power to help them live a pain-free life. “All of the providers at Spine & Brain Neurosurgery Center are committed to educating our patients on their choices, offering them less invasive options, including injections, non-opioid medications and different types of therapies as well as expert surgical care when it becomes necessary.”
Dr. Hussain carefully explains diagnostic results and shows her patients their MRI images so they have a mental image of what’s happening with their body and a better understanding of their condition. Her caring demeanor and commitment to the patient are proven with her personal motto, which she epitomizes at the practice each day: Restore function and improve quality of life, one patient at a time.
