Flu season is here and AdventHealth Centra Care doctors are reporting an increase of influenza in our area. With many families already being hit with this, it made us think … what happens when Mom gets sick? With other people relying on you at all hours of the day, being sick can feel even worse as a parent. There is never a good time to be under the weather, but it’s even more complicated when you’re a parent.

You can’t “call in sick” to motherhood or take a few days off. So how do you cope? Try these four tips for taking it easy when you’re feeling sick.

1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it’s  your husband, neighbor, friend or mom, don’t be too proud to call someone for support.

2. Let go of your normal routine. Maybe this means more screen time for your kids while you’re sick or just simply letting the laundry pile up. It will still be there when you’re feeling back to normal! Have a pajama day! Embrace the slower pace and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

 3. Make mealtime simple. Dinner can be a challenge any night but especially when you’re sick. Order take out or have cereal for dinner instead. It might be a nice change for everyone!

4. Get creative with the items in your house. Have your kids go on a scavenger hunt for certain items or get out crafts they can do on their own.
