A Q&A with Dr. Battle

A beautiful smile can help you feel more confident, and there’s nothing that Dr. Jason Battle of Premiere Orthodontics loves more than helping boost the confidence of his patients during every milestone of their lives. Battle recently sat down with us to answer all of your questions regarding orthodontics and his clear aligner treatment plan. Check it out to see if this is best option for you to achieve your perfect smile.

How do I know if a regular treatment plan or a clear treatment plan is the best option for me?

A traditional treatment plan requires braces that are fixed on your teeth while a clear treatment plan allows for a removable device. You have to decide for yourself if a removable or fixed treatment plan is right for you. If you believe that you won’t wear the clear aligners then fixed braces will achieve better, faster results. If the most important thing to you is esthetics then clear aligners would be the better choice. I always let the patient decide.

How does a clear aligner treatment plan work?

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your needs and goals so I can customize a treatment plan just for you. Then I’ll perform a simple, one-minute scan that will create a digital model of your teeth. We will go over it together on the computer to design your perfect smile. Once you approve the final model, it is sent to a lab so all of the clear aligners for your treatment plan can be fabricated. Once your treatment starts, we’ll meet every four to six months as you transition through each stage.

Is any part of the process going to hurt?

Nothing will hurt, but with any change there is a period where you will need to get used to wearing clear aligners or traditional braces. Think of it like going to the gym with a personal trainer for the first time. It will take a little time for adjustment.

Will I have to make any lifestyle changes while I have braces or aligners?

Yes. With fixed braces there are certain foods that you can’t eat, basically anything chewy or hard (gum, caramel, ice or nuts, for example). You will also need to clean your teeth more often. With clear aligners, you will need to plan out your meal times and time for cleaning your teeth after you eat. Clear aligners are worn for 22 hours a day and are only removed for eating and brushing your teeth. Many patients report that wearing clear aligners disrupts their snacking, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

Will the results last forever?

Yes. However, like with anything, maintenance is needed. Retainers will need to be worn consistently for the rest of your life. It’s just a part of beauty maintenance, like getting your nails or hair done, shaving or working out.
