Did your parents ever tell you that you shouldn’t be playing so many video games? Well, they were wrong. You could have been a member of one of the best 32 Call of Duty teams in the world. For the first time, the 2017 Call of Duty World League Championship is headed to Orlando with a prize pool of $1.5 million.
It only makes sense that the largest Call of Duty tournament to ever be hosted will be at the Amway Center. This venue has been the host for the world’s biggest artists and some of the most extravagant all-star games, but now it’s time for the first major e-sports event to take place at this incredible venue.
This event is a big step toward bringing e-sports to the mainstream and establishing credibility for all professional players.
Rob Kostich, EVP and general manager of Call of Duty at Activision, is excited to be able to host the championship on the east coast.
“The live events all over the world, including Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Paris and Sydney have been incredible, and the Global Pro League has already featured intense match-ups with teams going after the big Stage 1 prize purse,” he said. “So, the CWL Champs in August becomes even more fitting as the culmination of the best that Call of Duty e-sports has to offer this year.”
Kostich added, “We can’t wait for Orlando.”
The Call of Duty World League Championship will take place from Aug. 9 to Aug. 13, but the competition will be closed to the public on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10. All ticket holders will have access to watch the tournament from Aug. 11 to Aug. 13. If you don’t have your tickets yet, you might want to hurry up because they’re almost SOLD OUT.
