Because when all is said and done, isn’t it the spur-of-the-moment adventure the one we remember for a lifetime? So, Carpe diem, and let’s look at a list of last-minute, quickie and affordable vacays to end the summer of 2024.
Your Blueridge Mountain Escape
Are you desperate for a break from the Florida heat? Do you dream of a cool, bucolic mountain escape with waterfalls around every corner and the smell of logs on the fire? Then Blairsville, Georgia, is the vacation spot for you.
Located north of Atlanta, Blairsville is less than two hours from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is less than a two-hour flight from Orlando. Imagine leaving Central Florida in the morning and arriving in your peaceful Blueridge escape by early afternoon.
You’ll feel you’ve entered another world as you drive into this charming Mayberry-esque town square, founded in 1835. Blairsville sits within the Chattahoochee National Forest and is surrounded by the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
While there are several other mountain locales in the area like Dahlonega, Rome and Kennesaw, many consider Blairsville to be the most scenic town in the Blueridge Mountains. The town features Lake Nottely, a reservoir created in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) project. Then there’s Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap, famous for being the only spot of the Appalachian Trail to run through a building. It’s also famous for hikers tossing their shoes in the trees.
