Back-to-School Drive a Huge Success

From free haircuts, school supplies, and clothes, the Central Florida community joined forces to support children in need.

The Greatest Commandment Inc in partnership with Rejoice in the Lord Ministries and Need to Read Inc came together to host a back-to-school drive for the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida Saturday, August 3.

Over 100 school-aged children received free school supplies, backpacks, new clothes as they prepare to return to school. Hairstylists and barbers were on site donating free styles with a mix of face painters, snow cones, cotton candy, pizza and drinks. Local churches were also in attendance, providing engaging activities while donating new books to encourage recreational reading.

The Greatest Commandment Inc (TGCI), a non-profit, was founded in 2021 in response to the need created by the Covid-19 pandemic. In May 2022, the non-profit saw a consistent need in the community and aims to promote connection for a child, family, or individual who is homeless or has food insecurity.

“The goal is simple—to send these young people back to school prepared with everything they need, with confidence, regardless of circumstances, excited to learn and make the best future for themselves they possibly can,” says Alex Evans, co-founder of TGCI. “The Greatest Commandment Inc. has a continued mission to do our part to spread love and hopefully bring some joy to those who are going through a rough time, because those are the ones who truly need it most.”
