Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) has been chosen as a recipient in the NBA Foundation’s 14th grant round, securing part of a $16.3 million allocation distributed to nonprofit organizations across the United States. The university will utilize the funding to further its mission of preparing young Black men for academic achievement and professional advancement.
Established in 1993, B-CU’s Black Male College Explorers Program serves as a critical resource for minority male youth across Florida. Targeting students from sixth through twelfth grade, the program focuses on mentorship, academic support, and college preparation. Its core mission is to promote educational excellence, encourage high school graduation, increase access to higher education, and support long-term career success through a series of innovative, evidence-based strategies.
Participants in the Black Male College Explorers Program receive a wide range of services, including personalized tutoring, individualized mentoring, and comprehensive college and career exploration activities. These services are delivered by dedicated B-CU faculty, staff, and student mentors, all working to empower young men with the skills and confidence needed to excel academically and professionally.
“This generous investment of $300,000 from the NBA Foundation enables us to expand our influence and support young Black men as they begin to carve out their futures,” stated Dr. Sherry Paramore, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at B-CU. “Together, we are not merely altering individual life trajectories but also fostering the development of stronger, more resilient communities through education, empowerment, and access to meaningful opportunities.”
The NBA Foundation’s latest round of grants reflects its broader commitment to driving meaningful change in underserved communities, particularly within markets where NBA teams are located. By investing in organizations like B-CU, the foundation continues to emphasize its dedication to social impact and community development.
