Bishop Moore men’s lacrosse advances to Regional Semifinals

A phrenetic pace of more than 50 shots on goal gave Bishop Moore men’s lacrosse an 18-4 victory over the Windermere Wolverines on Friday night in the Regional Quarterfinals of the state playoffs. The Hornets strategy led to gigantic advantages in every statistical category and was the catalyst to the sloppy play displayed by the Wolverines throughout. The Hornets took 28 more shots, gathered 34 more ground balls, caused 33 turnovers, won 17 of 25 faceoffs and scored on both extra man opportunities to entirely overwhelm the Wolverines.

The starting front for the Hornets continued playing their best lacrosse of the season. While defenses continue to focus on senior All-American attackman, Jake Kiefer, the junior duo of RJ Sanfilippo and Brooks Rask once again led the way scoring four goals each. Kiefer added three goals of his own. Seven other Hornets scored one goal each.

The game also served as the return of senior midfielder Dillon Worrell, who missed a majority of the season with an injured foot. Worrell’s return provides even more midfield depth and a tremendous spark just in time for the playoff run. He scored one goal and added three assists versus the Wolverines.

Up next, the Hornets will host a Regional Semifinal versus the Lake Highland Prep Highlanders Tuesday night at 7PM. Just over three weeks ago, the Highlanders gave the Hornets their toughest regular season test in any win this season, falling just short of a fourth period comeback, 14-12.
If revenge is not already on the minds of the entire Highlanders program, it will certainly be with one of their top players, Hudson Bohn. Bohn transferred to Lake Highland for his senior season after playing at Bishop Moore last season. Bohn won 16 of 27 faceoffs in the regular season matchup, including 10 of the final 15 which helped nearly complete the comeback attempt.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to the Regional Final where they will face either Newsome or Jesuit from the Tampa region. Jesuit hosts Newsome Tuesday night at 7PM.
