Festival of Trees: A “Merry and Bright” holiday celebration

Decorating cookies with Grandma, looking at light displays in your neighborhood, hanging your favorite ornaments on the tree, or leaving cookies and carrots out for Santa and his reindeer. These holiday traditions are staples in many households. But if you’re looking for a new holiday go-to in Central Florida, you’re in luck. The Festival of Trees has been a can’t-miss hallmark of the season for 33 years, and it’s got something for everyone.

The Festival of Trees truly kicks off the holiday season in Orlando, running from Nov. 16-24, 2019, at the Orlando Museum of Art. General admission is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for children 3 to 11 and $12 for seniors.

From exploring beautifully decorated Christmas trees and holiday vignettes to gazing at gingerbread houses that are a treat for the eyes, those who enter the museum will truly feel this year’s theme of “Merry and Bright.” Bring the kids to Santa Claus Lane where they can play games and activities, get creative with holiday crafts and of course meet Santa Claus. Attendees can also take in dazzling tablescapes that are an entertainer’s dream, or see the real meaning of “Deck the Halls” with the display of mini trees, centerpieces, wreaths and garlands.

Looking for a reason for the season? The items at the Festival of Trees are raffled off or are available for purchase. To date, the Festival of Trees has raised over $12 million for the Orlando Museum of Art’s educational programs.

And it doesn’t stop there. In addition to the general admission fun, the Festival of Trees features several special events you’re not going to want to miss.

Bring the kids to Breakfast with Santa at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16 or 23. Families will delight in the joy of seeing their children have one-on-one time with Santa Claus. The Reindeer Romp Children’s Party is also a popular event. Come out at 6 p.m. on November 20th for crafts, face painting, balloon artists, photos with Santa and so much more.

For the young at heart, The Festival Salutes Seniors is on Tuesday, November 19th. With raffles, special prizes and programs, it will definitely deliver on the spirit of the season.

Or treat your Sugar Plum to the Ugly Holiday Sweater Party at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 16. Dress in your most fun and festive sweater and enjoy food, music, local craft beer, games, karaoke and a photo booth. With more than $1,000 in prizes, it’ll be sure to make your Christmas list this year. And finally, keep the fun rolling at the Latin Nights Party at 7 p.m. Friday, November 22. Sample delectable Latin cuisine and beverages and dance the night away with a Latin band.
