Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Tuesday plans for a new Buc-ee’s location during a news conference focused on a significant expansion project along Interstate 75. This addition marks another step in the growing presence of the Texas-based convenience store chain within the Sunshine State.
Buc-ee’s Expansion in Florida
Currently, Buc-ee’s operates two locations in Florida—one in St. Augustine and another in Daytona Beach. In addition to a previously announced location in Ocala, there are also plans for a new Buc-ee’s near Fort Pierce. However, DeSantis revealed an additional upcoming location along Interstate 10 near Tallahassee. While specific details about the Tallahassee site were not disclosed, the governor emphasized its potential impact on travel along the I-10 corridor.
Interstate 75 Expansion and Its Benefits
During the conference, DeSantis detailed the I-75 expansion project, which aims to improve traffic flow and infrastructure in Central Florida. The project will add auxiliary lanes along a 31-mile stretch from State Road 44 to State Road 326, covering the area from Wildwood to Ocala.
The governor emphasized the importance of investing in Florida’s infrastructure to support economic development, as well as maintain efficient roadways. DeSantis stated that the expansion is critical to addressing the region’s evolving transportation needs as the state’s population continues to grow rapidly.
The expansion is being accelerated through the Moving Florida Forward program. Under this initiative, at least 20 major roadway improvement projects across the state have been expedited, putting them years ahead of schedule. DeSantis highlighted how his leadership has pushed these critical projects forward to address the state’s infrastructure needs proactively.
New Interchange to Support Buc-ee’s Location
DeSantis shared that Marion County officials had requested funding for an interchange on northwest 49th Street, just off I-75. According to the governor, officials indicated that this interchange would directly support the development of the new Buc-ee’s near Ocala. As a result, the interchange is set to facilitate access to the Buc-ee’s location, which is expected to open shortly.
Florida’s Infrastructure Investments
The I-75 expansion is part of Florida’s broader initiative to enhance statewide infrastructure. The state has allocated nearly $70 billion over the next five years for various transportation improvements. Initially projected to take 10-15 years, the I-75 expansion is now being expedited to address growing traffic demands and economic development opportunities.
DeSantis also praised Buc-ee’s as a major attraction for travelers, calling it “like the Shangri-La of service stations.” The chain is well known for its extensive selection of food, clean facilities, and large-scale convenience stores, making it a popular stop for motorists.
Additionally, the expansion project is expected to bring a multitude of job opportunities to the local economy, further solidifying its role in Florida’s long-term development strategy.
As Florida continues to invest in infrastructure and welcome new businesses, these developments signal significant improvements for transportation and commerce across the state.
