How to Keep Safe On Your Motorcycle In Daytona

There are more than 10,000 motorcycle accidents in Florida every year, resulting in 600 fatalities. Motorcycle riders are less protected on their bikes than those driving cars, so if there is an accident, there is a greater chance of injury. This is why it is extremely important to ride safely and take every possible preventative measure, such as wearing a helmet when you are on your motorcycle. Daytona is one of the most popular areas of Central Florida for motorcycles, especially as it is host to the annual Daytona Bike Week, and events like Biketoberfest. If you are riding in this area, make sure that you are prepared for the roads and the amount of traffic, especially during these busy times.

Be prepared for your trip

Wherever you are traveling, it is important that you make sure that your bike is in a good state of repair before you set out. Make sure that you check the tire pressure and also that your brakes are functioning as they should be. Your batteries should be fully charged and the lights working properly. You should also make sure that you have adequate insurance to cover your trip, and are aware of the motorcycle accident lawyers available to help should you need it. They can help to protect you if you have a problem on the roads and give you advice in the event of an accident.

Bike week etiquette

2021 is the 80th anniversary of Daytona Bike Week, which takes place in March. During that week, there are normally around half a million motorbikes in Daytona. The area is vibrant, and there is plenty of music, bars and fun. Don’t be tempted, though, to have too much to drink if you are riding. If you have a blood alcohol level of more than 0.08%, then you are officially over the limit and could be charged with DUI. You are also more likely to have an accident. During Bike Week and Biketoberfest, Daytona is extremely busy. Don’t be tempted to speed, pay careful attention to the traffic signals, and be polite on the roads.

The Daytona area

Many motorcycle riders come to Daytona for the varied landscape. As you ride into the city, the Tiger Bay State Forest is beautiful, reminiscent of a jungle. Make sure that you keep your speed down, however, and be aware that this is a free-roaming area for black bears, white-tailed deer and hogs. You certainly want to avoid a road collision with these animals. In and around Daytona, you can ride on the roads, but there are also sections of the beach where it is permissible to ride – the sand is compacted enough. The speed limit on the beach is 10mph though, so don’t be tempted to put your pedal to the metal.

Daytona is a great place to visit on your motorcycle all year round. Make sure that you ride safe, always wear a helmet, and abide by the local speed limits, both on and off the road.
