West Orange Habitat for Humanity (WOHFH) recently dedicated homes in Oakland for the Galindez and Zeisloft families. It was the first time the organization has had the opportunity to welcome two new homeowners at the same time.
As he welcomed community members to the ceremony, past president for WOHFH Nick Shannin, shared that these were the eighth and ninth homes built in Oakland and the 31st and 32nd homes in West Orange County. During the ceremony, Congressman Daniel Webster, who has worked on many Habitat homes through the years, noted that “blood, sweat and tears” were involved in the projects. Oakland Town Manager Dennis Foltz and newly appointed Commissioner Sal Remos also spoke before the keys were given to the families along with a Bible and an American flag.
The new homeowners were given a chance to thank those that made their dreams of home ownership possible. A ribbon cutting at each house and a tour of the homes followed the dedication ceremony. “I’m so happy,” Maria Galindez says. “This is my dream.
