The eyes of the world were on “The City Beautiful” last month as a series of heartbreaking tragedies rocked Central Florida. It has been said that “you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have,” and the Central Florida Community has shown the world how strong we can be. We at the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association wish to offer a heartfelt “Thank You” to our regional first responders, medical personnel, and citizens who have united our community.
Thousands of people have poured into blood banks, many waiting outside in 90-degree heat to meet the urgent call for blood donations. CFHLA has partnered with OneBlood for the 12 years in the “Hospitality Challenge Blood Drive,” and there is no better time than now to support your community by donating blood. This event runs through Sept. 1 and encourages CFHLA Members to host blood drives at their properties or to donate.
Following these tragedies, the City of Orlando established the OneOrlando Fund to support victims and families and has already seen over $1.75 million in donations from the Central Florida Hospitality Industry. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has said, “This tragedy will not define us but will bring us together because we are One Orlando.”
Our thoughts, prayers and support are with the victims, their families and loved ones. We are also very grateful for our community leaders and the outpouring of support that’s been expressed by so many for our destination.
