Seniors First Participated in Nationwide March for Meals Campaign with Mayor Buddy Dyer

Seniors First took part in March for Meals, a national initiative spearheaded by Meals on Wheels America to advocate for senior nutrition programs. As part of this month-long effort, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer joined Seniors First in delivering meals to local seniors on Monday, March 3.

As the exclusive provider of all Meals on Wheels deliveries in Orange County each weekday, Seniors First underscored the essential role home-delivered meals play in promoting the health and independence of seniors year-round.

“Seniors First is honored to have Mayor Dyer join us in delivering meals and bringing attention to the challenges many older adults face,” Marsha Lorenz, President and CEO of Seniors First said. “We believe food is medicine, and access to healthy meals plays a critical role in maintaining seniors’ overall well-being and independence.”

Each year, Seniors First collaborated with community leaders, volunteers, and advocates to highlight the impact of meal delivery programs such as Meals on Wheels in combating senior hunger and isolation. In 2022, nearly seven million older Americans faced food insecurity—a figure projected to rise to nine million by 2050. Additionally, 37% of adults aged 50 to 80 reported experiencing loneliness, emphasizing the critical need for senior nutritional programs at both local and national levels.

Seniors First encouraged local officials, businesses, and residents to contribute by volunteering, donating, or advocating for seniors in their community.
