Seniors First proudly announced the unveiling of its new refrigeration and freezer unit, a significant addition designed to strengthen its nutritional programs and better serve vulnerable senior citizens in Central Florida. To commemorate this milestone, Seniors First hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 30 featuring Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. The event brought together community leaders, supporters, and staff, all united in the mission to stock the new unit with nutritious food.
“Aligning with the food is medicine initiative, this addition truly showcased our commitment to helping seniors live healthier, more independent lives. With the addition of this refrigeration and freezer unit, we expanded our Meals on Wheels program and continued to grow our collaborations with local partners,” Marsha Lorenz, president and CEO of Seniors First said.
The new refrigeration and freezer unit empowered Seniors First to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and other perishable food items to supplement its Meals on Wheels program. Since food serves as a crucial form of medicine for older adults, the availability of fresh food plays a vital role in supporting overall health, preventing chronic diseases, managing existing health conditions, and enhancing seniors’ quality of life. This addition directly impacted Seniors First’s ability to support more than 900 seniors through its Meals on Wheels program, which delivered over 345,000 meals in 2024 alone.
Seniors First remained committed to partnering with local businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to maximize the unit’s capacity. By working together, the organization aimed to reduce food insecurity among older adults and establish stronger social support networks, ensuring seniors had access to nutritious meals.
With this new addition, Seniors First successfully expanded its ability to store and distribute more fresh fruits, vegetables, and nutritious meals to local seniors in need. The organization continued to welcome community involvement through volunteering and donations, offering multiple opportunities for individuals and businesses to contribute to the cause.
