Must-See Stops on the Tour

Olin Library – A Treasure Trove of Memorabilia

Step inside to view a rare collection of Mister Rogers artifacts, including books, handwritten letters, photographs, a hand-knitted sweater made by his mother (which he wore on his show), and his signature sneakers. These items are on display in the Olin Library lobby throughout March. Outside of this time, you can schedule an appointment to view them in the Archives (Monday – Friday) by emailing archives@rollins.edu or calling 407-646-2421.

The “Life is for Service” Plaque

One of the most meaningful stops on the tour, this simple yet powerful marble engraving near Strong Hall left a lasting impression on Fred Rogers during his time at Rollins. So much so, he carried a photo of it in his wallet for the rest of his life.

The Walk of Fame – A Stone for Fred

Located in front of Lyman Hall, where Rogers once lived, his commemorative stone was placed in March 1991. See if you can spot it among the many notable figures honored here—hint: it’s nestled between Beethoven and Edith Wharton! The stone was brought in from his hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, as a tribute to his roots.

Tiedtke Concert Hall & Virginia S. and W.W. Nelson Department of Music

Inside the Fred Rogers Lobby, you’ll find a stunning portrait of Mister Rogers painted by local artist Don Sondag. The painting captures the heartwarming image of Fred in his iconic red sweater, slipping on his sneakers. Please enter quietly, as classes are often in session.
