The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation is proud to present an exciting new exhibit, “Tempest and Tornadoes,” running from April 1 through June 30, 2025. This immersive exhibition explores the profound impact of storms on the communities of West Orange County, Florida, offering an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

Exploring the Power of Nature and Community Resilience

“Tempest and Tornadoes” delves into the history of significant storms that have shaped the region, highlighting stories of survival, resilience, and the unwavering spirit of the community. Through interactive displays, historical artifacts, and compelling narratives, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how these powerful natural events have influenced local history.

“We are excited to bring this exhibit to life and highlight the history of storms that have intertwined with our local culture,” Kristi Gomen, the Executive Director of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for families and individuals to explore the history of our area while engaging with educational content that is both entertaining and informative.”

Natural disasters often play a significant role in shaping a community’s identity, yet their influence is sometimes overlooked. Florida is no stranger to extreme weather, facing threats from hurricanes, tornadoes, and freezes.

“This exhibit highlights the resilience and selflessness of West Orange County and how they continue to shape the character of our community. Our quarterly exhibits focus on the many aspects of West Orange County history as documented and created by the very people who live and work here. And everyone here has experienced severe weather events,” Jim Crescitelli, Director of Operations and Programming, and Will McCoy, Curator and Writer, said.

A Free and Accessible Educational Experience

The exhibit is free to the public, ensuring that everyone in the community has access to this enriching historical experience. While admission is complimentary, donations are greatly appreciated, as they help support the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation’s mission to preserve and share the legacy of West Orange County. Community contributions enable the foundation to continue offering free exhibits and museum tours, allowing future generations to connect with and celebrate the area’s rich heritage.

More Than an Exhibit: A Year-Round Commitment to History

Beyond “Tempest and Tornadoes,” the Winter Garden Heritage Museum hosts a variety of free exhibits and educational programs throughout the year. Visitors can look forward to engaging workshops, special events, and interactive experiences that deepen their appreciation for local history.

The community is encouraged to take part in this unique exploration of the storms that have shaped West Orange County. Families, history enthusiasts, and curious minds alike are invited to visit the Winter Garden Heritage Museum between April 1 and June 30 to experience the stories that have defined the region.
