Part of what comes with the territory of being considered one of the best teams in the state is getting every opponent’s best effort. That’s exactly what Bishop Moore got on Friday at home in a 14-10 setback against Oxbridge Academy of Palm Beaches.
“That’s a playoff caliber opponent. We made a lot of mental errors and got a little sloppy out there. It’s only February so we’ve got a long way to go.” Hornets coach Reed Reynolds said after the game.
Oxbridge also defeated the Hornets in a regular season defensive battle 6-5 last year. That score was matched early in the second quarter after midfielder, Ryan Conforti, regained the lead for Oxbridge. A lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the night.
A second quarter penalty on Hornets midfielder, Brett Heneghen, led to two Oxbridge scores with a man advantage. This gave the Thunderwolves an 8-6 halftime lead. Oxbridge outscored the Hornets 4-1 in the third quarter and took a 12-7 lead into the final quarter.
The Hornets comeback attempt was led by attackman, Jake Kiefer, whose two fourth quarter goals were his fifth and sixth of the game. Kiefer was a problem all evening long for Thunderwolves goalie and Syracuse commit, Christian Tomei. Keifer, a University of Utah commit, has 10 goals through two games so far this season.
The Hornets will begin conference play this week as they host Edgewater High School on Wednesday. They will also travel to Winter Park High School Friday night and host Lovett (Georgia) on Saturday, March 2nd. Lovett will face Bishop Moore as the second leg of a two-game trip to Orlando in which they will also face off against Lake Highland Prep.
Central Florida Lifestyle Sports will be following Bishop Moore lacrosse all throughout the 2019 season. If you have a story or would like in-depth coverage of your Central Florida high school sporting event, please contact Nick Moore at nick@karstmediagroup.com.
