Part of what makes a good team great is their ability to bounce back from a minor setback. The Bishop Moore Hornets (2-1) were able to do just that Tuesday night in a 19-0 beat-down of their College Park counterparts and in-conference opponent, the Edgewater Eagles.
Behind stellar play by junior midfielder, R.J. Sanfilippo, and junior attackman, Brooks Rask, the Hornets took an 11-0 halftime lead. Sanfillipo and Rask combined for six goals and two assists in the first half. The defense stymied the Eagles attack throughout.
Holding such a dominant lead at the half allowed for others to gain invaluable on-field experience.
“Depth and basic passing and catching is what is going to take you through the long haul.” Hornets head coach, Reed Reynolds, said post game. “You’ve got to have those guys who can step in because something is going to happen, something is going to come up, and you’re going to need the support from somewhere” he added.
That depth was on full display in the second half. An underclassman scored or assisted on seven of eight goals to secure the 19-0 win.
The game was the first in a long week for the Hornets. They will travel to Winter Park Friday night to take on the Wildcats. On Saturday at 2 PM, they’ll host Lovett, Georgia – who travels to Orlando as part of a two-game trip. The visiting team will also face off against Lake Highland Prep on Friday.

Edgewater senior midfielder, Fred Asare-Konadu, accepted an academic scholarship to Harvard back in December. A native of Central Florida, Asare-Konadu began his lacrosse career at nearby College Park Middle School in seventh grade. He plans to walk-on at Harvard next season. After suffering an ACL tear his junior season, Asare-Konadu developed such a relationship with his doctor, that he now aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon “to help people the way he helped me”. He will study Engineering, and hopes to change his lacrosse position to short-stick defensive midfielder.
