No. 25 Knights Storm Cincinnati In Rain-Shorted Rout

Rain & Delay of Game

The city of Cincinnati, Ohio was hit with an Orlando-style storm Saturday night, and then, it rained. It rained long and hard enough to discontinue the inclement beat down that was taking place on the field prior to the rain, where the UCF Knights were providing the thunder and lightning in their dismantling of the Cincinnati Bearcats 51-23 through three quarters. That score was deemed final when thunderstorms continued in the area after an hour delay between the third and fourth quarters.

Teamwork

Led once again by sophomore quarterback McKenzie Milton, the Knights offense was in the midst of football’s version of a perfect game, scoring on all eight offensive possessions through three quarters, in the form of seven touchdowns and one field goal. Milton’s five touchdown passes were a career-high….to-date. Junior wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith hauled in five catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns, and added his first career rushing touchdown. Smith now has eight touchdowns on the young season, scoring multiple times in all but one game this season (at Maryland).

Scott Frost’s bunch is not only turning heads nationally, they’re also turning back the clock with this season’s historic start. Saturday was the Knights first game playing as a nationally-ranked team since 2013, and the victory has them off to their first 4-0 start since 1988, prior to becoming a Divsion-I program.

Gaining Points

Saturday’s victory should undoubtedly move the Knights up further in this week’s college football polls, as both the No. 21 Florida Gators and No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers were beaten on Saturday. Up next for the Knights will be a home game versus East Carolina, a match up the Knights have dominated in recent years. Kickoff for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7PM.
