Stanford football to make Florida debut at Spectrum Stadium

Stanford David Shaw

Dear Stanford football,

Forgiving all the world-class achievements of those who came before you, you, the 2019 Stanford Cardinal football team, will soon do something no man in school history has done prior. Kickoff Saturday at Spectrum Stadium will be your school’s first regular season football game in the state of Florida.

First, allow us to apologize on behalf of our older, larger, Power Five, in-state schools that didn’t invite you prior. It is our understanding your prestigious university has been available for scheduling since 1891, just 15 years prior football’s first legal forward pass. We look forward to our second match up with you all in our brief Division I history.

Please allow this game to serve as our end of a home-and-home whose first leg took place in beautiful Palo Alto, California, in 2015. As I’m sure you’re aware, it’s 2019, and we, the UCF Knights, have not lost a regular season game in more than two seasons. Thank you for looking past the dynamics and difficulties of out-of-conference scheduling. Good on you for respecting what we’ve built here and honoring your prior commitment. It is the Knights pleasure to show you around.

We expect you to find many benefits of exposure in our football-rich state. It is our hopes that you reap the rewards of it just in time for a home-and-home with some of our neighbors one day.

Please wish us well in our next game, as we will travel to the Pitt Panthers. A non-conference road game versus a Power Five team from the ACC that won its division last season. Of the other in-state schools, only Florida State will travel out of conference for a true road game this season. Their regular season finale all the way down in, you guessed it – Gainesville, Florida.

Best of luck in the Bounce House. Go Knights!
