Universal Orlando Resort is preparing to unveil its highly anticipated new addition: Epic Universe. Scheduled to open on May 22, the park is poised to redefine Central Florida’s tourism landscape and make a significant economic impact on both a local and national scale.

Located within a sprawling 750-acre campus, Epic Universe represents the largest theme park ever developed by Universal Destinations & Experiences. According to projections by Dr. Sean Snaith, director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Forecasting, as reported by CNBC, the project is expected to generate approximately $2 billion for Florida during its first year of operation.

In addition, the theme park is forecasted to create more than 17,500 new jobs across the U.S. in its inaugural year, spanning industries from hospitality to engineering and creative services. This development is part of an even broader economic influence, with Universal’s direct investment in Epic Universe contributing an estimated $11 billion in economic activity nationwide, including construction spending and workforce expansion.

A New Era in Theme Park Innovation

Epic Universe will introduce visitors to five immersive lands inspired by beloved franchises and original concepts:

  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic

  • Super Nintendo World

  • How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk

  • Celestial Park

  • Dark Universe

The addition of these themed worlds is designed to not only expand Universal’s portfolio but also enhance its competitiveness in a region already home to some of the world’s most iconic attractions, including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay.

Tourism: Central Florida’s Economic Powerhouse

Orlando has long been recognized as a global tourism hub. In 2023 alone, the city welcomed over 74 million visitors, contributing to nearly half of Orange County’s total sales tax revenue. Universal’s latest expansion is expected to amplify this momentum, attracting even more domestic and international guests to the area.

Building a Long-Term Economic Legacy

Between 2019 and 2023, Universal Orlando generated an estimated $44 billion in economic impact, according to Snaith’s research. That momentum is set to continue with Epic Universe, which has already led to the creation of approximately 65,000 construction jobs. In total, Universal supported over 94,000 jobs nationwide last year alone.

With just over a month until opening day, Epic Universe is already being hailed as a transformative development—not only for Universal and its partners but for the broader Florida economy. As the state continues to rely heavily on tourism as a primary economic driver, the opening of a new flagship attraction is expected to have lasting ripple effects across the region.
